TSUKIJI · TOKYO
Sake tasting experience with a sake sommelier wearing a kimono in Tsukiji, Tokyo — at a wooden counter beside the outer market.
90 MIN · 9 SAKE · ¥19,800
THE EXPERIENCE
Our name is Tasting Tasty. You can taste nine kinds of Japanese sake in Tsukiji, Tokyo. At a wooden counter beside the outer market, an international sake taster in kimono will explain the history of sake, how it is made, how to read the label, and what kind of food it goes with, all while you drink it with prepared snacks.
This is not a drink-and-go bar. A certified sake instructor explains each sake one by one, with the bottles standing in front of you. You will also taste koji and shaved rice samples, and work through sake and snack pairings selected by the instructor.
You will be able to encounter sake here that you have never encountered before, so please come and join us.
OUR 6 FEATURES
The instructor is a certified international sake sommelier and a female instructor. You can enjoy the history and traditions of sake while feeling Japanese in a kimono.
Nine carefully selected Japanese sake from all over Japan, served with the sake sommelier's recommended accompaniments.
We show you how to read sake labels and how to find your favourite. You learn not just to drink it, but to choose it.
A maximum of six guests per session, so every question gets an answer and nothing is rushed.
In Tsukiji, steps from the outer market — an easy stop between the morning stalls and dinner.
You sit at the counter with the bottles lined up in front of you, so you can see each label as it is poured.
NINE CUPS, SIDE BY SIDE
Nine sake from brewing regions across Japan arrive together in a wooden tasting tray, each in a different cup. You compare them side by side rather than one after another, which is what makes the difference between a junmai, a ginjo and a daiginjo obvious rather than theoretical.
Each pour is served with a snack chosen to sit beside it, so you taste the pairing rather than hear about it.

PAIRINGS FROM ACROSS JAPAN
Small things from different regions, each matched to one of the nine and arranged on a bamboo tray. The instructor explains why a pairing works, then lets you test it against the next sake in the tray and decide for yourself.
Guests often find that the sake they liked least on its own becomes their favourite once it has the right thing beside it.

杉玉 · HOW THE 90 MINUTES RUN
You are met with a welcome drink and the breaking of a sake barrel lid — the traditional opening that marks a celebration in Japan.
How sake has been made and drunk, with koji and shaved rice samples passed around so you can taste what the words mean.
The nine sake, the snack pairings, how to read the labels in front of you, and plenty of time for your own questions.

EVERYONE AT THE TABLE
Tell us when you book and food is prepared especially for you — your own pairings for all nine, not a plate set aside.
Children cannot drink alcohol, of course, but they are welcome to stay with you. In that case we will not seat other guests with your group.
